US stock indices gained ground on Wednesday amid geopolitical developments and new statements by Fed officials.

Taiwan officials met US House of Representatives President Nancy Pelosi and asserted their commitment to democratic values and economic links.

Beijing condemned the visit and vowed for military action and manoeuvres around Taiwan, while also conducting traditional rocket launch experiments.

The White House defended the visit and asserted Chinese threats won't deter the US.

Dow Hones rose 0.6% as of 14:59 GMT to 32,605, while S&P 500 climbed 0.8%, as NASDAQ added 1.6% to 12,541.
