US stocks open higher on upbeat data

The major US stock indices rose Monday, following upbeat economic data that raised optimism about the world's largest economy returning to its growth path .

 

Data showed today that the US durable goods orders index rose by 7.3% in June, beating forecasts of  7%.

 

The Federal Reserve will launch its regular meeting on Tuesday, to discuss monetary policy and will reveal its interest rate decision on Wednesday.

 

Otherwise, the US government has pumped millions of dollars in the ongoing trails for the coronavirus vaccine that is being developed by Moderna, as the final phase of human trials is being prepared, amid expectations that it will be available later this year.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 0.5% or 140 points to 26,606 as of 14:23 GMT, Nasdaq rose 1.1% or 115 points to 10,478 points, and S&P 500 rose 0.6% or 6 points to 3,234.
