Dow Jones extends gains, while tech stocks drag Nasdaq lower

The major US stock indices were mixed in early trading on Friday, as Dow Jones hit a new record while Nasdaq fell due to the tech sector's losses.

 

10-year treasury yields rose over 3.5% to 1.6%, edging near 13-month highs at 1.622%.

 

The House of Representatives passed the $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill, which is aimed at supporting the economy from the coronavirus impact.

 

President Joe Biden has reportedly signed the stimulus package officially. 

 

As of 15:14 GMT, Dow Jones rose 0.4% or 138 points to 32,625, Nasdaq fell 1.3% or 175 points to 13,227, and S&P 500 fell 0.3% or 11 points to 3,927.
