Dow Jones closes lower, snaps 4-day winning streak

US stock indices closed lower on Tuesday, to snap a 4-day gaining streak, after Johnson & Johnson announced that it would stop the trials of its Covid-19 vaccine.

 

The International Monetary Fund estimated the global GDP to shrink by 4.4% in 2020, but will grow by 5.2% in 2021.

 

Data showed today that the US consumer price index rose 0.2% in September, on par with economists' forecasts.

 

The corporate business results season for the third quarter kicked off amid the coronavirus crisis, amid expectations of an improvement from the pandemic impact.

 

To the oil market, WTI November futures at Nymex rose 2% or 77 cents, to close at $40.20 a barrel, after hitting a high of $40.5 and a low of $39.3.

 

Brent December futures rose 1.8% or 73 cents, and closed at $42.45 a barrel, with a high of $42.6 and a low of $41.6.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones fell 0.5% or 157 points to close at 28,680, after it hit a day high 28,808 and a low 28,604.

 

Nasdaq fell 0.1% or 12 points to 11,864 points, with a high of 11,947 and a low of 11,822.

 

S&P 500 fell 0.6% or 22 points to 3,512, and posted 1.5% gain this week, with a high of 3,534 and a low of 3,500.
