The British pound rose against most currencies on Tuesday, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson's statements about the coronavirus crisis.

Johnson stated that despite the coronavirus infections receding in many countries, a second wave may hit the European countries, including the UK.

Otherwise, Johnson announced government's plans to spend £2 billion pounds ($2.6 billion) to encourage hiking and cycling in the UK.

Investors shrugged off the lingering uncertainty over the Brexit file, especially after negotiators from the UK and the EU stressed the deep differences between the two sides, which hurdle the way for an agreement about the future relations between London and Brussels.

As of 19:35 GMT, GBP/USD rose 0.5% to 1.2947, after hitting a high of 1.2953 and a low of 1.284
