Gold prices rose during trading on Tuesday, and the precious metal hit a record close, the third in a row, amid the stability of the dollar against most major currencies.

The Federal Reserve will reveal its interest rate decision on Wednesday, which is widely expected to keep the interest rate unchanged, and the meeting will be followed by a press conference from Fed chair Jerome Powell.

The dollar index held against a basket of currencies at 93.7 points as of 19:07 GMT, after it hit a high of 94.01 and a low of 93.4.

The first release of the US GDP reading for the second quarter will be reported later this week, amid forecasts for a contraction of 35% after a contraction of 5% in the first quarter.

Gold August futures rose 0.7% to the all-time highest close at $1,944.6 an ounce, with a day high of $1,974.7 and a low of $1,900.2.
