Oil prices fell on Tuesday, as the dollar held against most currencies, ahead of the US crude inventories data.
The American Petroleum Institute will release later today its preliminary data on US crude inventories, while the Energy Information Administration will reveal its official report tomorrow.
The dollar index held against a basket of currencies at 93.6 points as of 16:12 GMT, after it hit a high of 94.01 and a low of 93.4.
Investors focused on the Federal Reserve meeting, which will start later today and continue until tomorrow, and will be followed by the interest rate decision and a press conference from Fed chair Jerome Powell.
As of 16:16 GMT, West Texas Intermediate crude fell 1.1% to $41.11 a barrel, after it hit an intraday high of $41.9 and a low of $40.8.
Brent fell 0.2% to $43.31 a barrel, with a high of $43.8 and a low of $43.00.
The US consumer confidence fell during July due to the recent spike in coronavirus infections.
