Asian stocks open mixed amid worries over Hong Kong tensions

Asian stocks traded mixed on Wednesday but mostly positive, as the Japanese and Australian stocks gained more than 1%, the New Zealand stocks and the South Korean Kospi index also rose by nearly 1% following Wall Street after a robust start of the earnings reports season, while the Chinese stocks and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index slipped as the political tensions escalated again in Hong Kong.

 

The Japanese stocks gained today, as Topix rose by 1.09% or 17.65 points to 1,637.85 points, and Nikkei 225 jumped 1.52% or 338.53 points to 22,545.74.

 

While the Chinese stocks fell, as the CSI 300 index fell by 0.18% or 7.08 points to 3,929.17, and the Shanghai Composite index fell by 0.21% or 6.18 points to 2,984.87.

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell by 0.05% or 14.34 points to 26,489.59, while the South Korean Kospi gained 0.62% or 12.88 points to 2,081.05.

 

To New Zealand's NZX 50, which rose by 0.88% or 97.08 points to 11,142.42, and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 rose by 1.23% or 81.69 points to 6,733.70.
