Asian stock indices opened the second session of the week mixed with China, Australia, and South Korea higher, while Japan, New Zealand, and Hong Kong lost ground.
Earlier Japanese data showed consumer prices rose 0.2%, slowing down from 0.3% in August, while core prices fell 0.2%.
Consumer prices excluding food and energy remained unchanged, compared to a 0.1% dip in August.
Japan's TOPEX fell 0.79%, while Nikkei 225 inched down 0.33% to 23,433.
China's CSI 300 rose 0.37%, while Shanghai climbed 0.44% to 3,231.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.33%, while South Korea's KOSPI rose 0.70% to 2,324.
New Zealand's NZX 50 fell 0.44%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.03% to 5,954.
