Asia opens mostly lower in tandem with Wall Street

Asian stock indices opened the fourth session of the week mostly lower with Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea down, while Chinese stocks gained ground, as investors assess the second coronavirus wave ravaging the world and the recent good vaccine news. 

 

Both Pfizer and Moderna now announced their Covid vaccines are about 95% effective, paving the way to end the current pandemic.

 

From Australia, unemployment rose to 7% from 6.9%, while employment change rose 178.8 thousand, compared to a 42.5K drop in September. 

 

Japan's TOPEX fell 0.25%, while Nikkei 225 declined 0.63% to 25,566. 

 

China's CSI 300 rose 0.42%, while Shanghai rose 0.10% to 3,350. 

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.63% to 26,375, while South Korea's KOSPI declined 0.51% to 2,532. 

 

New Zealand's NZX 50 declined 0.40%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 shed 0.10% to 6,524.
