Asia opens lower, trims weekly gains

Asian stock indices opened the fifth session of the week lower, with Chinese stocks falling for the first session in nine, amid concerns over surging Covid 19 cases in North and South America, hurting global sentiment. 

 

Earlier Japanese data showed producer prices up 0.6% in June m/m, while falling 1.6% y/y. 

 

Japan's TOPEX fell 0.63% to 1,547, while Nikkei 225 shed 0.23% to 22,476. 

 

China's CSI 300 shed 0.76%, while Shanghai declined 0.89% to 3,419. 

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped 1.09%, while South Korea's KOSPI shed 0.67% to 2,153. 

 

New Zealand's NZX 50 fell 0.16%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 inched down 0.10% to 5,949.
