U.S. stock indices rose on Thursday amid constant wavering in the markets as trading volumes grew thin in the holiday season, which pushed stocks higher after yesterday's drop.
Earlier data showed U.S. unemployment claims down to 265 thousand in the week ending December 24, compared to the previous reading's 275K, while analysts expected 277K.
The positive data helped Wall Street recover today after yesterday's weak housing data, which caused losses back then.
The dollar on the other hand kept falling against main currencies, which helped the shares of American exporters as their products become cheaper abroad.
Standard and Poor's 500 rose 0.15%, or 3.33 points to 2,253.25, while Dow Jones gained 0.04%, or 8.49 points to 19,842.17.
Tech-heavy NASDAQ shed 0.04%, or 2.39 points to 5,436.17.
