Wall Street opens mostly lower

US stock indices opened little changed but still near recent record highs, as the second-quarter earnings season for major American banks and corporations revs up. 

 

Earlier US data showed a bigger than expected drop in weekly unemployment claims, while the Philly manufacturing index slid to 19.5 in July from 27.6, missing expectations of 23.4. 

 

As of 03:15 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 rose 0.01%, or 0.37 points to 2,473.78, while Dow Jones shed 0.12%, or 24.91 points to 21,615.84.

 

Tech-heavy NASDAQ dipped 0.11%, or 7.60 points to 6,376.20.
