US stock indices opened the first session of the week lower with tech leading the decline amid a lack of data from the US today while the earnings season for major US banks and corporations commences.

City Group's results misses estimates, reinforcing concerns about the slower global economy, especially after Chinese data showed lower imports and exports last month, while a US government shutdown entered its fourth week in a row.
