Wall Street declines ahead of Powell's statements

US stock indices declined on Tuesday as investors await Fed Chair Jerome Powell's statements later today.

Fed member Neil Kashkari said the recent US jobs data showed the Fed needs to continue its path of rate hikes. 

Fed Chair Jerome Powell will talk later today in Washington, and might provide enough clues about the path forward for the economy. 

Dow Jones fell 0.3%, or 120 points to 33,777 as of 15:54 GMT, while the S&P 500 fell 0.2%, or 8 points to 4,103, as NASDAQ steadied at 11,888.
