US stock indices opened the second session of the week higher after closing on Monday for the Presidents Day holiday, buoyed by the tech and consumer commodities sectors as the fourth-quarter earnings season carries on for major American corporations.
Earlier US data showed positive flash readings for both manufacturing and services PMIs, while existing home sales fell unexpectedly in January.
Investors now await the Federal Reserve's minutes of the January 30-31 meeting, at which policymakers votes to hold interest rates unchanged between 1.25% and 1.5%.
As of 03:17 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 rose 0.44%, or 11.95 points to 2,728.38, while Dow Jones climbed 0.30%, or 75.13 points to 25,039.88.
