US stocks rise following positive growth data

US stock indices opened higher on Thursday, after the release of upbeat US economic data, which comes after Dow Jones yesterday posted its biggest daily loss since June.

 

The US Department of Labor reported today that the unemployment claims fell 40,000 to 751,000 during the past week.

 

The advanced reading for the US GDP showed growth by 33.1% during the third quarter.

 

Major tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Facebook will report later today their business results for the third quarter.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 0.4% or 110 points to 26,630 as of 15:31 GMT, Nasdaq rose 1.1% or 130 points to 11,134, and S&P 500 rose 0.8% or 27 points to 3,298.
