Dow Jones surges more than 400 points with trade talks in focus

US stocks rallied today, amid a close anticipation in the global markets for results from the latest round of the US-China trade talks. 

 

A new round of the US-China trade talks between several high-level officials from both countries launched yesterday in Washington, in efforts to reach a trade deal that will end the ongoing trade war.

 

Markets are also awaiting a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He.

For his part, President Trump expressed his optimism about a potential deal with China, and added that China pledged to buy large quantities of US products.

 

As of 15:11 GMT, Dow Jones advanced 1.6% or 430 points to 26,926 points, Nasdaq surged 1.8% or 150 points to 8,099, and S&P 500 rose by 1.6% or 48 points to 2,986.
