US unemployment claims worse than expected

At 13:30 GMT, the US Department of Labor released the unemployment claims reading for the week ending February 13, at 0.861 million, worse than forecasts of 0.775 million, and worse than the previous reading of 0.848 million after it was revised from 0.793 million.

The US dollar fell against a basket of major currencies on Thursday, and gave up its 1-week high on profit-taking, but today's loss is ebbed by the high yield of the US 10-year Treasury bonds and ahead of key US data later today.

Oil falls ahead of EIA inventories report

Oil prices continued to fall as the US market opened on Thursday, after rising earlier due to profit-taking from a 13-month high, but today's losses are ebbed after a drop in the US crude inventories according to the American Petroleum Institute's preliminary data and fears over the US supply amid the cold weather conditions in that suspended most of Texas' supply, ahead of the EIA weekly report.

European stocks fell on Thursday, to deepen losses for the third day and pulled back further from a 1-year high, on profit-taking and disappointing earnings results by major European companies, led by the giant aircraft manufacturer Airbus, as its shares lost nearly 4% after reporting an operating loss in 2020.
