Wheat closes over 5% higher after USDA report

Wheat prices rose on Wednesday, as demand for agricultural commodities rebounded in the Chicago Merc following the US Department of Agriculture's report.

 

The USDA revealed that US stocks of soy, corn and wheat have fell compared to a year ago.

 

The Department added that US soybean stocks reached 523 million bushels, lower by 42% from September 1, 2019.

 

Corn stocks also fell 10% to 2 billion bushels compared to the same period 2019.

 

While wheat stocks fell 8% to 2.16 billion bushels, which was unexpected in the market and pushed the prices higher.

 

The dollar index held against a basket of currencies at 93.9 points as of 21:53 GMT, after hitting a high of 94.1 and a low of 93.6.

 

Wheat December futures rose 5.25% to close at $5.78 per bushel, after hitting a day high of $5.87 and a low of $5.47.

Sterling rises after UK's GDP data

The British Pound rose against most of its counterparts on Wednesday, after the release of the Britain's GDP data.

 

Data showed today that the final reading of the UK's GDP fell 19.8% in the second quarter, beating expectations of -20.4%.

 

While the final reading of the US GDP decreased 31.4% in the second quarter, better than forecasts of -31.7%.

 

The British current account reading posted a deficit of 2.8 billion pounds, more than forecasts of 1 billion pounds.

 

As of 20:50 GMT, GBP/USD rose 0.5% to 1.2918, after the pair hit a high of 1.2942, and a low of 1.2806.

 

EUR/GBP fell 0.4% to 0.9086, with a high of 0.9158 and a low of 0.9067.

Silver scores 26% gain in third quarter

Silver prices fell on Wednesday, and posted monthly losses in September, but managed to log strong quarterly gains, as the US dollar held steadily against most of its peers after the release of positive US economic data.

 

Data showed today that the final reading of the US GDP decreased 31.4% in the second quarter, better than forecasts of -31.7%.

 

Additionally, ADP data showed the US non-farm employment change rose 749,000 jobs during August, beating forecasts of 650,000 jobs, vs. 481,000 in the previous reading.

Silver December futures fell 3.9% or 95 cents, to close of $23.494 an ounce, and posted 18% monthly loss, but with a quarterly gain of 26%, after hitting a day high of $24.505 and a low of $23.235.

US stocks close higher, log quarterly gains, but with monthly losses

The main US stock indices rose on Wednesday, after the release of positive US economic data, and posted quarterly gains, but with monthly losses.

 

Data showed today that the final reading of the US GDP decreased 31.4% in the second quarter, better than forecasts of -31.7%.

 

Additionally, ADP data showed the US non-farm employment change rose 749,000 jobs during August, beating forecasts of 650,000 jobs, vs. 481,000 in the previous reading.

 

To the oil market, WTI October futures at Nymex rose 2.4% or 93 cents, to close at $40.22 a barrel, with 5.6% loss this month, and 2.4% gains in the third quarter, after it hit a day high of $40.03 and a low of $38.6.

 

Brent November futures rose 1.8% or 74 cents, to $42.30 a barrel, with monthly loss of 9.6%, and 0.5% quarterly gains, a day high of $40.8 and a low of $40.3.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 1.2% or 329 points to close at 27,781, posted a monthly loss of 2.3% and quarterly gains of 7.6%, after it hit a day high 28,026 and a low 27,511.

 

Nasdaq rose 0.7% or 82 points to 11,167, and posted a monthly loss of 5.2%, and quarterly gains of 11%, after it hit a high 11,277 and a low 11,092.

 

S&P 500 rose 0.8% or 27 points to 3,363, and posted monthly loss of 3.9% and quarterly gains of 8.5%, after hitting a high of 3,393 and a low of 3,340.
