Precious metals fell under pressure this week after The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and the German firm BioNTech announced on Wednesday that the recent data from the final phase of the clinical trials on their Covid-19 vaccine showed it was 95% effective.
Both Pfizer and Moderna are awaiting the distribution license of their vaccines, which is badly needed after the record spike of infections in the US and several other countries.
The dollar index rose against a basket of major currencies by 0.1% to 92.4 points as of 21:51 GMT, after hitting a high of 92.4 points and a low of 92.2 points.
Silver December futures rose 1.3% or 32 cents, and closed at $24.363 an ounce, with a weekly loss of 1.7%, after hitting today's high at $24.600, and the low at $23.955.
The British pound rose slightly against the US dollar on Friday, following the release of robust economic data.
The data showed that the UK retail sales index rose 1.2% during October, beating forecasts of a drop by 0.3%.
The public sector net borrowing reached 21.6 billion pounds, better than forecasts of $31.6 billion.
