Gold prices dithered on Thursday after the meeting of the European Central Bank that resulted in no change in the monetary policy, forcing the precious metal into sideways trading.
Gold last traded at $1,213.2 an ounce, compared to the opening price of $1,213.0, with a session-high at $1,217.6, and a low at $1,210.3.
Gold's dithering comes as conditions stabilize in the European economy and after the central bank kept interest rates and monetary policy unchanged, forcing markets into treading water lightly for the time being till the U.S. payrolls report tomorrow.
The dollar was also flat as traders await the all important U.s. jobs report tomorrow, especially after a good improvement in the private job sector in May.
The dollar index, which tracks the greenback versus a basket of six major rivals, last traded at 95.41, compared to the opening of 95.39, with a session-high at 95.53, and the lowest level this week at 95.15, after the index hit an eight-week peak this week at 95.96 before returning lower and wavering.
