The British pound rose against most major currencies on Friday, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson testing positive for the coronavirus, which mounted fears over the deadly disease spread in the UK.
Johnson confirmed that he had showed some coronavirus symptoms and the tests showed that has contracted the coronavirus.
The Prime Minister stated that he is in self-isolation at Downing Street, and will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference and technology.
While some observers stressed concerns over the Queen Elizabeth contracting the coronavirus after Prince Charles and Johnson tested positive, but the Buckingham Palace issued an official statement that she is in good health.
GBP/USD rose 2.1% to 1.2465 as of 20:06 GMT, after the pair hit a day high of 1.2484 and a low of 1.213.
