US stock indices opened the fourth session of the week lower amid concerns about the escalating US-China trade row, and ahead of the results of the banks' stress tests by the Federal Reserve.

Earlier US data showed unemployment claims fell 3 thousand to 218 thousand from 221 thousand, beating forecasts of 220K, while continuing claims for the week ending June 9 rose 22K to 1.723 million from 1.701 million, above expectations of 1.710 million.
The Philly Manufacturing Index slipped to 19.9 from 34.4 in May, missing forecasts of 29.0.
As of 02:08 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 fell 0.43%, or 11.79 points to 2,755.53, while Dow Jones shed 0.61%, or 151.11 points to 24,506.69.
Tech-heavy NASDAQ shed 0.43%, or 33.19 points to 7,748.33.
