Sterling rose in American trade away from March 19 lows for the second straight session, following a speech by Bank of England Governor Mark Carney at the International Climate Risk Conference for Supervisors, in Amsterdam, while Federal Reserve governor Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak about the economic outlook at the Economic Club of Chicago later today.
As of 04:18 GMT, GBP/USD rose 0.59% to 1.4085 from the opening of 1.4003, with a session-low at 1.3983, and a March 28 high at 1.4105.
Earlier US data showed the unemployment rate settled at 2001 lows at 4.1% in March, missing expectations of 4.1%, while average earnings rose 0.3% as expected, up from 0.1% in February.
The economy created 103 thousand new jobs in December, down from 326K in February, revised from 314K, and missing expectations of 188K.
