Platinum prices fell on Monday to a six-week trough after registering three consecutive weeks of losses, as the dollar hit an eight-week high today.
Platinum last traded at $973.55 an ounce, compared to the opening price of $977.40, with a session-high at $977.85, and a six-week low at $967.7.
Platinum's losses come as the dollar buzzes near an eight-week high versus a basket of rivals, raising pressure on commodity prices.
The dollar rose to eight-week highs today after logging four straight week of wins, before backing off slightly due to light trading volumes.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's performance against a basket of six major rivals, last traded at 95.71, down from the opening of 95.83, with a session-low at 95.66, and an eight-week peak at 95.96, after the index registered its fourth consecutive weekly profit.
