European stocks rise for first session in 4 ahead of key statements

European shares rose on Wednesday, and rebounded from a 1-week low, on track for the first gain in 4 sessions, lifted by auto and tech shares, ahead of central banks officials' important remarks later today.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.9% as of 10:55 GMT, after closing lower by 2.2% yesterday, the largest daily loss since July 19.

The auto sector saw the largest gains in Europe today, with a rise of more than 1.75%, followed by the tech sector's rise of 1.6%.

ECB President Christine Lagarde is due to participate in a virtual panel discussion titled "Policy panel" at the ECB Forum on Central Banking.

Lagarde said in her earlier testimony ahead of the European Parliament that the ECB will keep monitoring the current increase in inflation as a transient issue for the long term.

S&P 500 futures rose 0.5% today, after the index closed lower by 2.1% on Friday, the largest daily loss since May 12, due to rising Treasury yields.

Back to Europe, the Euro Stoxx 50 index rose 1.1%, France's CAC 40 rose 1.2%, Germany's DAX index rose 1%, and the UK's FTSE 100 rose 0.8%.
