Europe recovers from 2-month low on Trump's remarks

European shares rose on Tuesday, recovering from a two-month low recorded earlier yesterday, as concerns over the US-China trade war have relatively declined, especially after recent US President Donald Trump's comments on the prospects of successful trade talks between The world's two largest economies.

 

As of 11:11 GMT, Stoxx Europe 600 rose 0.8%, and the index ended yesterday's session down 1.2%, hitting a two-month low as the US-China trade war worsened.

 

China said on Monday it would impose higher tariffs on most imports from the United States with a $60 billion target list for US products, in response to an increase in US tariffs that took effect on Friday, undermining investor appetite in most Global financial markets.

 

The Index rose today to offset part of yesterday's losses, recovering from a two-month low, with most of the major bourses and sectors in the Green Zone.

 

The Mining and Basic Resources sector topped the list of gainers in Europe, with a gain of more than 1.4%, as concerns over the US-China trade war have relatively declined.

 

US President Donald Trump has said he expects the US-China trade negotiations to succeed in the next few weeks, as Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Japan next month.

 

S&P 500 futures rose more than 0.7%, and the index ended yesterday's session on Wall Street down more than 2.4%, the lowest level in seven weeks, following the developments of the US-China trade war.

 

Euro Stoxx 50 index gained more than 0.5%. while In France, the CAC 40 index rose 1.1% to top the gainers list in Europe. with Germany's DAX rising 0.6%. and in London, the FTSE 100 added more than 0.9%.
