Asian stocks open lower in first session of the week

Asian stocks opened the week with negative performance, with Japanese and Chinese stock indices falling, as well as Hong Kong's Hang Seng and South Korea's Kospi Index, while the Australian and New Zealand stocks rose on Monday, amid the quarterly business reports season of Asian companies and banks.

 

Otherwise, investors are now looking for the resumption of the US-China trade negotiations as a US trade delegation headed by US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer travels to China earlier this week, with the Federal Open Market Committee meeting also will lunch amid this week, which is expected to include Federal Reserve monetary policy makers' interest rates cut decision for the first time in more than a decade.

 

Japanese stock indices witnessed a decline during today's trading session, with the broader Topix index dalling by 0.45% to lose 7.02 points down to 1,564.50, Nikkei 225 index also fell by 0.55% to lose 119.95 points down to 21,538.20.

 

China's benchmark index, CSI 300 fell by 0.16% (6.15 points) reaching 3,852.42 points. The Shanghai Composite index fell by 0.14%, shedding 4.21 points to 2,940.33.

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell by 1.11% (316.33 points) to 28,081.41, and South Korea's Kospi Index fell 1.93%, shedding 39.97 points to 2,026.29.

 

To the New Zealand NZX 50 index, which rose by 0.47% (8.57 points) to reach 10,843.13. On the other hand, Australia's S&P/ ASX 200 index gained 0.35% (23.81 points) and reached 6,817.20.
