Asian stocks open lower after sharp losses on Wall Street

Asian stocks opened lower today, following Wall Street's lead after yesterday the US manufacturing data showed the worst reading since June 2009 in addition to similar weak European data, which renewed the market's concerns about a global recession due to the US trade protectionism especially the US-China trade war.

 

The Japanese stocks fell today, as Topix fell by 059% or 9.46 points to 1,593.54 points, and Nikkei 225 fell by 0.65% or 142.54 points to 21,742.70.

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell by 0.82% or 214.22 points to 25,878.05, and the South Korean Kospi fell by 1.36% or 28.20 points to 2,044.22.

 

To New Zealand's NZX 50, which fell by 0.59% or 65.06 points to 10,931.93, and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 fell by 1.26% or 84.95 point to 6,657.90.
