Asian stock indices opened the fifth straight session mixed with Japan, China, Hong Kong, and South Korea higher, while Australia and New Zealand lost ground, amid concerns of another Covid 19 wave, especially in Europe.
Earlier Japanese data showed consumer prices up 0.2%, slowing down from 0.3% in July.
Japan's core consumer prices, excluding food and energy, rose 0.2%, slowing down from 0.4%.
Japan's TOPEX rose 0.36%, while Nikkei 225 rose 0.15% to 23,354.
China's CSI 300 rose 0.33%, while Shanghai climbed 0.29% to 3,279.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.24%, while South Korea's KOSPI advanced 0.22% to 2,411.
New Zealand's NZX 50 fell 0.61%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 inched down 0.06% to 5,879.
