Asia opens mostly higher as China closes

Asian stock indices opened the first session of the week mostly higher, with Japan, Australia, and South Korea gaining ground, while New Zealand declined as China closes for a national holiday. 

 

The Covid 19 death toll in New York state tapered off for the first time, while global cases reached 1.27 million cases, with 69,500 deaths so far. 

 

Italy marked the lowest deaths in two weeks, and France the lowest number of deaths in five days, while deaths fell in Spain for three consecutive days. 

 

Japan's TOPEX rose 1.84% to 1,349, while Nikkei 225 rallied 2.41% to 18,249. 

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.62% to 23,380, while South Korea's KOSPI surged 2.23% to 1,763. 

 

New Zealand's NZX 50 tumbled 2.39%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 surged 3.35% to 5,237.
