Wall Street surges 1% at the open

US stock indices opened the first session of the week higher on optimism towards the holiday season, with retail and tech shares leading the pack higher after sustaining recent heavy losses. 

 

As of 03:32 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 rose 1.26%, or 33.38 points to 2,665,84, while Dow Jones rose 1.41%, or 341.32 points to 24,627.27. 

 

Tech-heavy NASDAQ surged 1.54%, or 106.99 points to 7,045.97.
