US stocks recoup some of yesterday's losses

The major US stock indices rose on Tuesday, to recover some of the previous losses seen yesterday after a massive sell-off due to fears about the coronavirus.

 

The Chinese health authorities confirmed today that 106 people had died from the coronavirus, and the infected cases rose to more than 4,500, with more expected to come.

 

The virus quickly spread from China to multiple other countries, such as Germany, France, the US, Australia and a several Asian countries, which all revealed confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

 

The US durable goods orders reading showed a rise by 2.4% in December, in the largest monthly rise since April 2019.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones was higher by 0.5% or 150 points to 28,684 at 15:13 GMT, Nasdaq rose by 0.8% or 80 points to 9,218, and S&P 500 added 0.5% or 17 points to 3,261.
