Most of the US stock indices opened lower on Thursday, but the tech sector lifted Nasdaq to fresh record high.

US health authorities reported that coronavirus infections continued to spike in most states.

Some states have even called for reimposing the coronavirus-linked restrictions or postponing their economic reopening measures, which the White House publicly rejected.

White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow said that reimposing coronavirus-restrictions is a "big mistake" for the economy.

The US unemployment claims reached 1.314 million during the past week, beating economists' forecasts of 1.37 million.

As for stocks, Dow Jones fell 0.3% or 80 points to 25,985 as of 14:07 GMT, S&P 500 held at 3,171 points, while Nasdaq rose 0.7% or 73 points to 10,565.
