The major US stock indices opened lower on Wednesday, the first session of April and the second quarter, following President Trump's gloomy remarks.

President Donald Trump warned that the coronavirus would claim between 100,000 and 240,000 victims in the US in the next two weeks.

Trump stressed that the US will suffer from "very, very painful two weeks" due to the spread of the deadly disease.

The ADP data showed that the US non-farm has lost 27K jobs in March, better than forecasts of -150K, while lower than February's reading of 179K jobs.

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 2.7% or 600 points to 21,250 as of 14:17 GMT, Nasdaq rose 2.5% or 190 points to 7,510, and S&P 500 added 3% or 76 points to 2,506.
