US stocks open higher, S&P 500 tops 4,000 for first time ever

US stock indices opened higher on Thursday, as the US Treasury bond yields fell, despite the release of disappointing data.

 

US President Joe Biden announced a $2 trillion infrastructure spending plan, to develop electricity grids and other facilities to boost the US economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Data showed that the US unemployment claims rose to 719K during the past week, worse than forecasts of 678K. 

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 0.2% or 51 points to 33,033 as of 14:03 GMT, Nasdaq rose 1.5% or 201 points to 13,450, and S&P 500 rose 0.73% or 27 points to 4,000.6.
