US stocks mixed after upbeat economic data

The major US stock indices saw a mixed performance at the opening on Tuesday, after the release of positive economic data, while investors are focusing on the latest developments about the second fiscal stimulus package.

 

The US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday continuing the negotiation with the US administration for a deal on the fiscal stimulus bill.

 

Data showed that the US durable goods orders rose 1.9% in September, higher than forecasts of 0.5%.

 

The core reading of the durable goods orders index (excluding energy and food prices) rose 0.8%, also higher than forecasts of 0.3%.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones fell 0.1% or 35 points to 27,650 as of 15:03 GMT, and Nasdaq fell 0.4% or 50 points to 11,410, while S&P 500 rose 1 point to 3,402.
