US stocks extend record-breaking rally

US stocks advanced on Tuesday, as Nasdaq and S&P 500 continued their surge to record highs.

 

Investors shrugged off the lingering over the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed more than 1,000 victims in China and over 42,000 were infected.

 

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell during his semi-annual testimony before the House Financial Services Committee expressed that the current monetary policy is enough to support growth rates, adding that inflation is heading to the Fed's target of 2%.

 

However, Powell stressed concern about the impact of the coronavirus on the Chinese economy and its global outbreak.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones climbed 0.4% ot 110 points to trade at 29,386 as of 15:14 GMT, Nasdaq added 0.7% or 73 points to 9,701, and S&P 500 added 0.5% or 18 points to 3,370.
