Dow Jones falls below 19,000 points

The major US stock indices opened lower on Monday, amid the escalating fears over the coronavirus, while the Federal Reserve measures to support of Wall Street have not succeeded.

 

The Fed revealed today an open quantitative easing program, to buy corporate bonds and securities, in addition to providing liquidity and support to US companies and families.

 

The US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the US administration is cooperating with the Fed to inject $4 trillion of liquidity into the markets.

 

Mnuchin added that the US federal government agencies can move to take an equity stake in certain companies.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones lost 1.5% or 275 points to 18,890 as of 14:06 GMT, Nasdaq fell 0.1% or 1 point to 6,878, and S&P 500 lost 1.5% or 33 points to 2,271.
