Kiwi settles lower for first session in four ahead of Fed

The New Zealand dollar tilted lower in Asian trade off early August highs against its US counterpart, following earlier data from New Zealand and ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decisions today. 

 

As of 03:35 GMT, NZD/USD barely inched down to 0.6786, with an intraday low at 0.6771, and a high at 0.6792. 

 

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand voted at the November 7 meeting to maintain the official cash rate unchanged at 1.75% for the 15th meeting in a row as expected by analysts. 

 

Now analysts await US unemployment claims data for the week ending November 3, expected with no change at 214 thousand, while continuing claims for the week ending October 27 are estimated with a 4 thousand increase to 1.635 million. . 

 

The Federal Open Market Committee is also wrapping up its policy meeting today, with analysts expecting no change in overnight interest rates at below 2.25% after increasing them by 25 basis points for the third time this year at the last meeting.
