Consumer confidence in the United States rose to 102.4 points in May, the highest level since 2004, according to data from a survey by the University of Michigan.
While analysts forecast the index to rise to 97.8 from 97.2 in April.
The rise comes after strong US economic growth data in the first quarter despite the ongoing trade war between Washington and Beijing.
