Trump threatened the EU countries of a potential tariffs on their cars exports to the US if they didn't agree on a fair trade deal.
Markets are also following Trump's impeachment trial in the US Senate, which may result in his removal from office, after the House of Representatives accused him of obstructing the Congress and misusing his powers.
The dollar index was lower against a basket of major currencies by 0.1% to 97.5 points as of 19:01 GMT, after hitting a day high of 97.6 and a low of 97.3.
