Sterling gains ground versus greenback on smooth Brexit prospects

Sterling titled higher in American trade versus the dollar in a day that lacks major data releases from both Britain and the US and after further developments in the Brexit saga. 

As of 05:38 GMT, GBP/USD rose 0.05% to 1.2820, with an intraday high at 1.2864, and a low at 1.2796. 

UK Prime Minister Theresa May spoke before Parliament where she said the British people voted to stop the freedom of movement into the UK, therefore a system that controls immigration must be implemented, while asserting that Gibraltar belongs to Britain and completely refusing Spanish suggestions on the island. 

May added that Britain respects its financial obligations, with a timeline set up to pay off the dues, while finally calling on Parliament members to take British interests into consideration before voting on the Brexit agreement.
