Euro slips after Lagarde's comments

Euro fell slightly against the US dollar on Friday, after the market digested the European Central Bank’s rate decision and its President Christine Lagarde's statements yesterday.

The ECB held interest rates at 0.00% unchanged yesterday, and kept the asset purchase program without hinting to change it in the near-term.

Lagarde stated during a press conference that she saw uncertainty and risks to economic growth receding around the Eurozone and the global economy, due to the easing of trade tensions between the US and China, after they signed the phase-one trade pact.

Lagarde also expressed her optimism about the meeting between the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, with President Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland.

This came after President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on EU exports to the US if no fair trade deal is reached.

As of 10:32 GMT, EUR/USD fell 0.1% to 1.104, after hitting a day high of 1.1063 and a low of 1.1032.
