Aussie holds gains after confidence data

Australian dollar rose modestly on Tuesday after scoring profits for two successive sessions, following strong business sentiment data in Australia.

NAB Business Confidence survey rose to 12 in January from 10, revised from 11 in December.

AUD/USD rose to 0.7860 from the opening of 0.7858, with an intraday high at 0.7865, and a low at 0.7847.

Gold prices managed to sneak higher today, underpinning Aussie due to it's direct relationship with commodities, especially gold.

US dollar index was little changed this week, helping Aussie recover from two weeks of losses.
