Ethereum sharpens decline to two-month low

Ethereum fell on Wednesday for the second straight session to two-month lows after falling through the psychological barrier of $500 while most cryptocurrencies suffer losses.

As of 12:17 GMT, ethereum fell $16, or 3.3% to $477 from the opening of $493, with an intraday high at $501, and the lowest since April 12 at $463.

Ethereum closed Tuesday down 7%, the sixth loss in the last seven days as selling orders flood the crypto market.

Market value of cryptocurrencies fell $12 billion on Wednesday to a total of $272 billion, the lowest since April 12.

Cryptocurrencies are facing heavy pressure amid US investigations into price manipulation, police raids into crypto mining in Japan, and a $40 million hack into a licensed platform in South Korea.
