Silver closes over 2% higher for second straight session

Silver futures surged on Tuesday, lifted by strong safe-haven demand amid concerns about the announced coronavirus vaccines, while the US dollar fell against most currencies.

News agencies revealed doubts about the "Moderna" vaccine, after the company announced promising results yesterday, but scientists believe more data is needed, which is not available currently.

US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said stressed the readiness of the US federal budget for more losses and damages by the coronavirus and the aid programs.

The dollar index fell against a basket of currencies by 0.2% to 99.4  points as of 20:34 GMT, after it hit an intraday high of 99.7 and a low of 99.2.

Silver July futures rose 2.5% to close at $17.901 an ounce, with an day high of $18.01 and a low of $17.34.
