U.S. stock indices opened Friday flat amid thin trading volumes as most investors pull out of the markets for the holiday season, limiting the movements of the stocks.
Wall Street's modest gains today were led by tech and financial stocks, while energy and oil stocks fell as crude prices weakened, forcing the indices into wavering.
On the other hand, the dollar wavered today against main currencies after plummeting yesterday, which made the stocks shrug it off in today's trading.
Standard & Poor's 500 rose 0.14%, or 3.09 points to 2,252.35, while Dow Jones shed 0.02%, or 4.48 points to 19,815.30.
Tech-heavy NASDAQ slipped 0.09%, or 4.89 points to 5,427.20.
