US stock indices opened the last session of the week lower, with Apple leading the decline yet again in the tech sector, while a drop in oil prices nudged energy shares down after President Donald Trump criticized OPEC for keeping oil prices artificially high.

Now markets await Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President John Williams' speech at a fireside chat hosted by the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, in California.

As of 02:59 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 fell 0.53%, or 13.90 points to 2,679.23, while Dow Jones slid 0.53%, or 130.50 points to 23,534.39.

Tech-heavy NASDAQ slid 0.82%, or 58.31 points to 7,179.75.
